As the Grim Reaper spoke, the colourful images merged into a woman’s silhouette. Like a skilled dancer, the woman twisted her hands above her head and produced a tiny sundial out of thin air.

In a wave of light, the silhouette swept her cloak around her body. She vanished into thin air and left the sundial in her place.

“One day, the Timekeeper disappeared from our realm,” the Grim Reaper continued. “When she did, her greatest treasure – a sundial that allowed her to freeze time – was never seen again.”

Suddenly, the sundial exploded in a burst of light, and the lights in the Emporium flickered back to life.

“Here’s your challenge, Avril,” the Grim Reaper continued with a smirk. “You must find the missing Timepiece, and bring it back to this chamber by midnight.”

“What?” Avril gasped. “The Timepiece has been lost for decades, and it could be anywhere in the Spirit Realm. We’ll never be able to bring it back by midnight!”

“You should have thought of that before accepting my challenge,” the Grim Reaper said with a chuckle.

“Wait a minute!” a voice exclaimed.

To the Grim Reaper’s surprise, Cupid and Diya stepped out of the crowd. They joined Avril and Hannah before the crowd of Spirits.

“Avril and Hannah can’t find the Timepiece by themselves,” Cupid announced. “That’s why we’re going to help them.”

“In order to protect Avril, you stood up to the Grim Reaper,” Diya whispered to Hannah, giving her a proud smile. “Since you defended our friend, we’ll make sure that you remain his Apprentice.”

While Hannah gave her friends a grateful smile, and Avril whooped with glee, the Grim Reaper looked unfazed.

Although Cupid and Diya had joined the game, the Grim Reaper knew that they were no match for his power. He was sure that Avril would be beaten at his own game, and Hannah would be banished from their realm.
